The “Symmetry House” | Abandoned House

A perfectly balanced prairie home frozen in time on the backroads of Saskatchewan

While exploring the quiet backroads of rural Saskatchewan, we came across a small abandoned farmhouse that immediately caught our attention. We’ve nicknamed it the “Symmetry House” because of its perfectly balanced front design. From the road, the house appears almost like a mirror image—what’s on the left side is repeated on the right, giving the little home a charming sense of order and simplicity.

The house itself is a cute 1½-storey structure that once stood proudly on the prairie landscape. Though time and the elements have taken their toll, many of the original details remain. Inside, we found beautiful wood trim around the doors and windows, a reminder of the craftsmanship that went into building rural homes like this decades ago.

The upstairs felt especially like stepping back in time. Tucked beneath the sloped ceiling was an old metal bedframe and mattress that had been left behind, as if someone simply walked away one day. Hanging above was an unbroken lightbulb—an ordinary object that somehow made the scene feel even more like a preserved moment from the past.

Homes like this once dotted the Saskatchewan countryside, each with its own story tied to the families who lived and worked on the land. Today, many sit quietly along gravel roads, slowly returning to the prairie.

In this post, we’re sharing a collection of photos from inside the house along with a full video walkthrough so you can explore the Symmetry House with us and experience this little prairie time capsule for yourself.

We do a full video walkthrough of this small but neat abandoned house - check it out!
