Salt Creek power plant | Montana

Exploring an abandoned power plants in Montana, USA

The Salt Creek Power Plant in Wyoming was one of the first natural gas power plants in the world.  It was the first of it's kind and at least 2000 people worked there in 1923 to help build the plant. It began operating in 1925. It was designed to use natural gas that was brought to the surface as a byproduct of oil production in the salt creek oilfield. A pipeline was built from the oil field to feed the power plant. The boilers burned gas to heat water form the lake and made steam to drive the turbines. The plant closed in 1958.
