Expanse, Saskatchewan | Ghost Town

Abandoned ghost town in Saskatchewan with a unique schoolhouse.

The town of Expanse was created by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1911. It was created as a village in 1012 and the first council meeting was held in 1913. Expanse was the fifth town on the CPR line south of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. It was the end of the CPR track for the southern part of the province from 1912 to 1914. It was a boom town where homesteaders got supplies and brought grain from as far as the border. The village was disorganized in 1935.

All that remained on our visits was the schoolhouse and a large abandoned house, which was said to be owned by a doctor. The schoolhouse is a one-room flat schoolhouse with unique rounded doorways.

Update: The school has been demolished.
