Cameron Consolidated School

Abandoned brick school in Cameron, Manitoba

The Cameron School District was founded in May 1885 and named after the Cameron family, early settlers in the area. A one-room schoolhouse was constructed on the southeast quarter of section 29-15-18 W, now part of the Rural Municipality of Minto-Odanah. In 1915, the district merged with Cadurcis School No. 179 to form Cameron Consolidated School No. 406. A brick school building, costing $4,939, was officially opened on January 2, 1917. The school ceased operations in 1966, and a commemorative monument was unveiled at the site on July 26, 1986.
