Many houses on the prairies are small wooden structures, but in between those, there is sometimes a large house made of brick, stone, or cement block. This house in particular stands out on the prairie, a huge house that we call the mansion. It's made of cement block and was likely built in the early 1900s. It's on private property, so we have always photographed it from a distance. While on a recent visit, we ran into the owners who allowed us to document the entire building. We took our time going through with photography and video. It's a beautiful home with original woodwork, a butler's staircase, a stone basement, a beautiful attic, and grand porches. The owners did not know the history of the house, and we could not find any through our research.
When exploring rural properties on the prairies, familiarize yourself with the local trespassing laws - in Saskatchewan, you need permission to step onto rural property.
